According to Seniors Digest, caregiving is one of the most stressful jobs in America, and for many, it is not their only job. The number of adults taking care of family members or friends increases daily, and the majority of these caregivers are not providing care for compensation.

Extent of Family Caregiving

• 65.7 million Americans (29% of the US adult population) are providing care to someone who is ill, disabled, or aged
• 52 million caregivers provide care to adults (aged 18+) with a disability or illness
• 43.5 million Americans care for someone 50 years of age or older
• 14.9 million care for someone who has Alzheimer's disease or other dementia
• Caregivers of adults are now older, on average, than were their counterparts in 2004. Their average age now 49.2 years, compared to 46.4 in 2004
• Unpaid family caregivers will likely continue to be the largest source of long-term care services in the US
